Best Breeds for Laying Hens?

What are you looking for in a laying hen? If you're just looking for best production, go with leghorns for white eggs and sex links for brown.

Thanks! I've always gone with Bard Rocks, but figured I'd try something new this year. I think I'm going to go with the Leghorns.

from San Diego County. Its hard to tell what is best for you.

My experience is with Welsummers and Americanas... Both good layers. I have heard there are more prolific layers like Australorps and Anacondas.... but I havent had them.

Barred rocks are beautiful, I have two myself! One even has her own thread on here. Just be careful with leghorns because while they're very heat tolerant, their large combs get frostbite easily so it's crucial to be sure your coop has good ventilation in the winter.
