Best broody ducks

If you want a mild hen just hatch her yourself and handle her a lot. My daughter likes to have one or two really tame ducks. I know a woman who has taught her Muscovy ducks to come when she calls their names. If you get the duck used to the handling you can reach under her and she won't bite you. Those are the girls I keep around to hatch other eggs for me. You can also declaw the duckling when its small. Its like what is done to the dew claws on puppies. Please note *** I AM NOT RECOMMENDING THIS ***(many folks think declawing is a form of cruelty). But like wing pinioning it is an option to be considered.

I love my muscovy ducks, mine is sitting on some chicken eggs I got from a friend. I keep them with my chickens, but I wouldn't get a drake for fear of him crushing my little polish hens (or any of them really). I live in the city as well, and since muscovies make no noise that you can hear from further than 10 feet away, I couldn't recommend them to you more. I have never had a problem with my ducks clawing anyone (except me on wing-clipping day). The ducks are definitely number one in the pecking order, but they don't hurt the chickens. This is just my experience.
