Best Chicken Mix Projects (Anyone who has done a project can post here)

Especially the legs.
It's important for crosses to have the leg size to carry the weight of a CX influence.

he's over a yr old and is off of a cx roo and bo hen below is a shot of his legs

next is the 4 month old roos from the cx hen and bo roo

Thread needs: Egg color projects, wild color projects, and we also need some crosses that are crosses of your everyday breeds (i.e. Orps, Wyandottes, RIR, Barred Rocks, Polish, Ameraucanas, etc.)

If she kept the pea comb from her Araucana heritage there is a very good chance she will lay blue eggs.

Will put up pictures of a few of my crosses, I make EEs using black true Ameraucana rooster over RIR and Black Australorp hens. All chicks have had pea combs and muffs and beards. Half of the Am x RIR chicks are black and the other half are white with almost a wild type pattern. Although as you can see in the photo of the two juveniles there is some variation in the amount of color. All of the Am x BA are black of course. Black chicks all have slate shanks, some of the white chicks are growing out with green shanks and some with yellow shanks.

Most I have sold but I saved one of the white chicks to see how it grew out- and it ended up being a pullet, yay! She is almost 3 months old. I'm hoping she will be laying by spring! Hopefully she will lay a green egg (blue gene + brown gene = green eggs).

Chick above grew into 3 month old pullet below:

Color variation as the white chicks grow out: (these are about 5-6 weeks old)

Can't wait to really participate in this thread! I am going to start incubating the first week of February. My crosses will be: Light Brahma x EE and 1 Blue wheaten Am if she ever stops being broody

, Wellie roo over EE, frizzled cochin roo over EE and Welsummer, and EE roo over wellie hens, to try for some olive eggs with speckles. Also gonna do a Marans EE cross later on. All kinds of crosses!

actually none have had a pea comb, they have been coming off with buttercup combs (roos and pullets). But off this last batch, there are some with the regular polish v comb
