Some friends asked me what is the best small breed chicken to keep for egg production, and where can they get them. I really didn't know what to tell them, so I thought I'd post it on here. Their kids really like my Silkies, but, are a bit intimidated by my standard size hens. I've already told them Silkies are not the pets for them if they want lots of eggs. They only want hens and they only want a few friendly birds that don't tend to go broody.

Any suggestions for them?

small or bantam? If they are looking for small then a leghorn they are hard to beat and because of their small size don't eat as much

Bantam faverolles!

bantam. So in your experience, will bantam leghorns be friendly enough for the kids? I thought all bantams go broody? Old wives tale?

Leghorns are not Friendly , Easter Egger bantams are, but The Best Layer that is friendly is a Wyandotte

Yeh - just caught my terrible spelling too. Fixed it.

Where did you get yours? Hatchery? How long have you had them?
