best egg laying duck?

My runners have each given me an egg a day with out fail. But the woman we bought them from breeds her stock for egg laying. I hear that golden 300's are great but because they are bred to lay so many eggs they often have many negitive side effects like not being able to take in as much calcium as they need. It really is up to you and what else you want in a bird. If you want a meat bird then runners are not for you. If you want a broody then that rules out all but the welsh harlequins.

certainly lots to consider. I think that I've narrowed it down to khaki campbells or the 300's DH wants a runner too. Looks like I'll be getting another new coop this year!

My campbell has not missed a day since she started laying in October. I hatched 2 of her babies and have 6 more eggs in the incubator. I have alot of people wanting duck eggs and with only 1 cant fill all the orders

My Saxonies have been laying non-stop for over 6 months now. All winter long. Plus they are a quiet breed and totally laid back.

Khaki Campbells are one of the best layers. Welsh Harlequin are good too and are also broody. You can even tell the gender of their ducklings from color. There's also a hybrid called Gold Star, which is supposed to be a really good layer. I don't know if they're broody though. White Pekin(not Jumbo Pekin) are pretty good layers, but are not broody. meyerhatchery.com has some good information.
