best feeder

my waterer is basically a pass through from rain water.

but for the feeder...without a doubt...you could use a 50 gallon barrel with PVC pipe...and would be cheaper than the $150 i paid. i was actually thinking of using my grain elevator to buy feed in bulk, feed into a hopper and then gravity feed into feeders.

If you used a 50 gallon barrel with PVC pipe for feed, you would have to install a cone in the middle to force the feed to the outer walls. My chickens can get their heads in about half way on the 5 gallon bucket, but a 50 gallon barrel is a lot wider.

i don’t know...hog feeder is easy for $150 ;)

many things were confirmed by my original post about coop fallacies...basically most of the “rules” are nonsense...and the fact of no response confirmed it.

from reading on this forum plus taking notes from chicken farmers...

here’s what i’ve learned:

1. bedding is pointless
2. roll outs...heated seedling mats
3. automatic heated water
4. high capacity hog feeder/pellets
5. highest roosts of any sized wood or whatever
6. auto closing door to outside
7. DE dust bath and oyster shell trough

i have two of the grandpa’s feeders and they’re awesome but only if you have a small flock of chickens...otherwise you have to fill them all the time.
