When it was time for my 5 month old Barred Rock, Miss Kay to lay her first egg, we were still in the process of building their new coop. The flock normally stayed in the brooder in the garage but one day we had them out free-ranging in the yard. Miss Kay came back into the garage and found an open bag of pine shavings. After she was done laying she started to sing and jumped of the bag of shavings, leaving her first egg.

I said i would post as soon as my chickens laid their first egg!!! While we were gone for thanksgiving we got three surprises!!! All a sage green color, we think laid by our cross, Ed. We think she is an egg a day layer...

We think the sage green color comes from part easter egger in her and some brown egg layer!!
