Best gun for varmints

I read an article recently about a firearm that was specifically designed and manufactured as a coyote rifle, due to the sheer volume of people who are getting interested in the sport..

Can't remember the manufacturer right off hand, nor the caliber, but I'll try to track it down..

Edited to add:

BINGO! It was the Remington R-15 VTR "Predator" ..

Bet they're super pricey, though..

Hey, now why does "the wife" need a air gun????? Any woman I know can handle a .223, please! I shoot .243, .30-06, .308, .30-30, AR15, and my DHs glock 9mm all the time!! And I love 12 guages, which was my Bday present. And I weigh all of 115 lbs.

In fact I bought a Remington .308 for my deer hunting rifle this year. Gorgeous gun!

My 10 yr. old daughter has progressed from an air rifle to a 22 - She says those are for babies.

Thanks for all the useful advice, folks. It was from reading the various posts in the Predators and Pests forum that finally pushed me to make a decision to buy, so I figured there would be some good responses. I have not been disappointed.

Didn't quite expect some of the responses I got, but then that's the danger you run in participating in a public forum where pretty much anybody can join.

We are trying to keep our cost down, so that will likely be a major factor. We'll buy as much gun as we feel we need, but no more.

I'm wondering if pawn shops would be a way to get a little more gun for less money. Anybody have luck with buying guns from those?

My wife is also running the question by the police stations weapons specialist. I'll let you know what he recommends, as well.

We always buy from pawn shops, but I dont know if its that much cheaper. But that is pretty much all we have here.

i guess we know the owners, and so we trust them. (small town) But otherwise I would want to check any prices before buying.

DH always looks on gunbroker.com to check prices.

I have found better deals at the gun shows than the pawn shops. I have a friend that operates a pawn shop, and even he couldn't beat the deals that some of the dealers at the shows.

That's another advantage of having a spouse who works at a police station. Pawn owners have to report certain sales and purchases on a regular basis to the police, and so some of the officers and police clerks have relationships with them. She is going to get advice about which are the most reputable shops.

And mentioning where she works when we visit one probably won't hurt, either.
