Best Hatchery to order baby chicks from

I’ve used two hatcheries this year, a local one that does traveling chick days around the area and Ideal Poultry. I got more breeds and very nice looking bantams from Ideal, but of the 20 I bought I received 17 males, of which I rehomed 16 and kept the 3 pullets. All the chicks arrived healthy, vigorous and survived but I was sad so send so many away. And after talking to other Bantam people here, I wasn’t the only person to get a very heavy male order last year. I had much better luck picking my own chicks from the limited breed selection of random babies in a box on a table from the local hatchery, my last batch yielded 11 females of 13 with my barely educated guesses.

I forgot about Heartland Hatchery and their chick days at local feed stores, they come all the way down here and maybe farther. That's another good option if you have something like that in your area, you can preorder what you want. We are in driving distance from Cackle and Estes.
