I have a few books and magazines that portray bantams as delicate. What breeds would be good to be placed in a nice roomy coop and turned loose for time to scratch and hunt in the afternoon? OEGB's? Dutch? Belgian D'anver?

We have black tailed japanese bantams. They are far from fragile. They freerange in the woods, in the goat pens, turkey pens, and they love the pig pen . They are brave enough to walk right up and eat out of the pigs food dish while she is eating. Shes only 250 pounds of bodacious pig. They go broodie all the time as well. We started with 10 that a friend asked my DH to take as he could not longer care for them Now 10 months later we have 34 and more under two hens They reproduce fast. lol

I have Brahma, Cochin & Silkie Bantams

These guys are pretty hardy!!!

I have had ice on the coop walls because it was so cold I did have 1 cochin roo frost bite on his comb!

Brahma has pea comb & Silkie walnut comb

out of all 3 breeds the Bantam Brahmas are the better & bigger (egg) layer!

all of them are great cuddlers

I have to say I have always had Brahmas & Cochins & I have had to do nothing with their feet!
