Best pet chicken breeds?

We just lost our house chicken Brigid to liver cancer. She was a bantam RIR. Our house is so different without her. Something is REALLY missing. My husband suggested I call up the people who sold her to us and see if they would sell us another one. I was thinking about it, but I am not sure. For one thing, I don't know if all Bantam RIR's make good pets. This particular hen really bonded with us because she didn't get along with the other hens, who had all been together since birth. I am also wondering if there are other breeds that would make good pets, maybe better than a Bantam RIR.

I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions.

It really depends on the personality of the chicken (if it would make a good pet or not). If you're looking for a lap chicken, i remember reading somewhere that Brahma's are great lap chickens, very good pets.

Silkie's make excellent pets. They are docile and sweet and very easy to handle, usually even the roosters. They can not fly at all. The only downside is that they are not great layers and can be broody a lot - but you can break the broody behavior.
