What Quail breeds do ya'll recommend for producing Quail eggs?
I already have my fun birds and am not really interested in any meat birds.

If ya'll have any tips on where to get them that would be very helpful as well. :fl

California valley quail are beautiful and they produce eggs like any other quails. Bobwhite quails, button quails are good.

Buuuuut japanese coturnix are bred specifically for egg production and lay almost as many as chickens. They are the most productive egg quail, and probably what you want. :)

Very true. Plus they are much calmer and easier to tame. Also, in some areas they are the only quail allowed. Here (MA), coturnix and buttons are considered domestic so you can have them like other poultry but anything else is illegal. I think you can get bobwhite with a permit but idk. So be sure to check local laws too!

Also, coturnix come in many, many different colors and you can even get blue egg laying (celadon) quail so you can still have plenty of variety even with one breed!

Where do you get Japanese Coturnix?
I can't seem to find any for sale in my area, at least on craigslist.

Do you need a license to raise California Valley Quail?

There are tons of sellers on eBay if you type in coturnix quail or even just quail. I think it is under the hatching eggs section. I will have to look up exactly what section it is.

Here are some sellers of the Celadon (blue egg laying) and fancier variety types but there are tons selling the wild color, jumbos, etc. for probably cheaper

Unfortunately though, most places sell hatching eggs because quail are smaller and more fragile and don’t ship as well as chicks and other poultry. So if you don’t have an incubator, that may not be an option. But some will ship chicks, they just are usually a week old rather than a day old like chicken chicks because they are stronger then. And if you can find any locally you can pick them up too or pick up adults. I would keep trying Craigslist too though or maybe even FB yard sale. Try typing a lot of different combinations and key words. Like quail, coturnix, coturnix quail, quail hatching eggs, etc.
