Best roo for protecting my hens from predators?

What breed of rooster would be the best for protecting my hens from predators?

What type of predators?
American Game and Standard Old English are very protective of there hens..

If you dont have any other roos you should try to get 1 game type chicken like the ones they use to use for fighting,I would go for the cubalaya aseel or shamo.

Depends on what kind of predators you're dealing with. My dogs and cats have been afraid of my birds because of the big roosters and broody hens, but I don't know how they'd do against a hawk, owl, raccoon, or opossum (the last 3 mainly being if they can get in the coop at night).

Yeah, it really depends on predators. In most cases, game birds are best (cubalayas, shamos, asils, etc ) - But even something like a well bred Brahma does the trick. I don't know why, but for some reason most Brahma hens I've known are very territorial, and will beat off cats, dogs, etc.

For us, our only true threat are Bald Eagles. The whole place is a fenced off pasture, so nothing really gets in and gets past our Yaks, - But our common and local Bald Eagles are a menace.

I don't know why, but for some reason most Brahma hens I've known are very territorial, and will beat off cats, dogs, etc.

Lol, my brahmas regularly chase our cat away. They see her and they are like, offended by her presence. She is a real predator, but she leaves them alone.

But they play dead for everything else, including our (gentle but occasional curious) dog, and a hawk that almost killed one of them.​

I saw a gold sex link rooster run down a redtailed hawk that had a hen on the ground and beat the hawk so badly it didnt survive. that rooster was still the sweetest thing and so well behaved around young kids and little chickens.

IMHO I think it depends on the roo. My BLRW roo is absolutely HUGE and the biggest wuss on the planet. On the other hand my BR roo is rather small and he will take yer head off. Well not mine, but when the dog even gets close to the pen, he completely freaks!
