Best Rooster breed?

Merry Christmas

I have both Bielefelder and Orpington roosters. Both of mine are non aggressive and very alert.

My questions would be:

Is climate an issue - very hot or very cold

Are you looking for less vocal , might not matter

Are you lookin g for egg color

Are you looking to add size

Are you looking to add egg size

Are you wanting something different or rare

I am looking for a breed that’s more cold hardy and noise or egg color are not problems. But it would be nice for the breed to be a fairly good layer.

Faverolles, i'll never have another breed at least when it comes to roosters. Non-agressive, good with hens and chicks, cold tolerant as all get out and just pretty to boot.:)

Hello!

So unfortunately my beloved blue Ameraucana rooster was killed by a dog. He died protecting his girls and was an amazing boy. I am not looking to replace him as I know that's not possible. But my girls are now left bewildered without a rooster to bring them in and out of the coop everyday. Plus, I love roosters and personally prefer to always have one in my flocks.

I'm thinking of ordering a few more girls and a new boy this spring. I'm wondering what breed I should get. I'm looking for a breed that's know to be a great protector but not overly aggressive towards people and a good fertility rate (Since I looked into Shamos and realized they have a fertility rate of only about 40- 50%.) I know that it ultimately comes down to the individual bird himself and his personality but I'm really just looking for some good suggestions. I would be extremely lucky if I get a bird that has a personality anything like Blue's was since I know it's unlikely. I've had various different roosters over the years and I'd say 40% of them were people aggressive so I know there's a good chance that it will. But again I'm just wondering if anyone has any breed suggestions that are "known" to have the qualities I'm looking for. Thanks!
I have a Favorella rooster who is fabulous with his girls and the other roosters and loves to be petted and held. He is very protective of his girls but knows his limits with me. I will always have a favorella roo.
I have a silkie roo too that is a butt hole.

How about Chanteclers? Big handsome very cold tolerant birds, and my cockerels and cock birds have been good. Salmon Favorelles are very nice, and Buckeyes, and maybe a Marans, although avoiding cocks with single combs is a good idea too.
Half of my Speckled Sussex cockerels were good, and half were human aggressive, although they did taste really good. 50% is poor odds, IMO, and I gave up on them. The SS hens are wonderful, though.
Wyandottes come in many beautiful colors, are large, and have smaller combs. Plymouth Rocks and Dominiques have single combs but are also nice.
Many many breeds to choose from!

I have a lovely Naked Neck-Turken rooster who is so sweet and he is large (Only because his father is a 2ft giant but they are still big). They are cold hardy and also great in the heat too (That is a bonus). The females aren't the best mothers and don't go broody often. They lay 120-150 eggs per year which isn't much but they have large eggs. They do look exotic which is really cool. He is great with my 11 girls and is super pretty. Honestly, I would go for this breed but it is whatever you think. I don't have a grown-up picture but this is him as a little chick! :jumpy

We have a Black Australorp cockerel (43 weeks), and he is a good rooster for keeping an eye out and alerting. He is not the nicest to the flock, sometimes appears to just pick on birds, and has kept one breed (3pullets) mostly in the coop or literally running from him as he really didn’t like them. He also has shown some people aggression. Maybe just him, but not sure he’d be my choice. We had 2 Dark Brown Leghorn cockerels that wouldn’t shut up, so we culled them...too bad bc they were really attractive. We also have a 43 week old Black Jersey Giant male. Seems to have a good disposition and does not crow a lot. He is pretty big, so not sure if that would be a problem. He is also below the BA cockerel in pecking order, so this could be impacting his behavior.

Ditto with the silliest rooster, I had one who was a brat and used to attack but he passed away and we got our current Sipkie rooster who is very sweet
