Best tempered Roo?

I've had luck with a RIR rooster. He was big, but never came at me. On the other hand when I was little I had a silkie rooster who attacked me every time I went in the pen. I had to carry a stick with me and knock him out just so he wouldn't spur me. Sounds mean, I know but I got spured a couple of times and then resorted to knocking him out. He never learned.

I had to teach mine to be nice. They aren't very cuddly, unlike a couple of my pullets. They were smart enough to realize that if I have treats in my hands, they can get me to drop the treats by scratching and pecking my hands real hard. Then they'd get a whole pile of treats instead of having to share, while I ran around shouting. So, I had to give out treats with work gloves on for a while, until they realized their pecking/biting/scratching trick wasn't going to work anymore. Now they are OK though.

(r*e*s*p*e*c*t baby thats the key!!) I have a standard ? roo and a bunch of banties. Only one has tried to attack me (red shoes drove him nuts.) theis will probably upset people but I kicked my foot at him and said "I don't think so back off" in a loud and rough voice and have never had a problem since. the erst of my roo's don't cuddle or anything but they respect me. I roo's understannd I am there to take care of there ladies and them. Crystal

My delaware is a good bird. He only gets testy when the young roosters are messing in he corn or his roost. It is actually kind of funny to watch. he thumps his wings hard and fast (flogging) and runs after the other bird. He will then fluff himself as to say "I showed him didn't I!"

I had a RIR roo, he was 5 weeks old when he was killed but he was sooooooooooooo sweet. I think the way they're treated when they're small chicks determines how they will act as adults. Well, mine didn't live to be an adult but he was the sweetest chick I had. I handled him a lot as a baby and when the chicks moved outside he was the only one that would run up to me and sit on my shoulder as I walked around the chicken yard. He was a great flock protector, he died protecting his girls from a black snake and the snake won.

My white leghorn Roo is the kindest most gentle guy in the world
He's a rescue roo and might just be greatful for all the new love but

seriously

you can pet him like a dog and he loves to be carried around

My little chick/ Barred Rock is a maniac --- he's crazy but funny crazy - he just runs around the property full tilt all the time -- He's growing up with us thou. I didn't get him as an adult so maybe that makes a difference? dunno....

Regardless he's a gentle spaz
The day he turns mean ...well... lets just hope he remains a sweetheart

I have 7 adult roos, Marans, EE, OEGB, BR, Polish and only one ever attacks me. He is a mixed breed of some sort in his own pen with a few hens. Our EE's are by far the friendliest and will let us hold them. My Marans is referred to as Uncle Bertram because we keep him in the Juvy pen to raise the younguns. The rest are standoffish but not aggressive.

well, silkie bantam roos are sweet and tame. . .and even rarly seen to addopt eggs and hatch them uder it. . .and take care of them. . .also, they can also be seen to take bugs or something and give it to the babies.
