Best way to introduce buff color into a flock? (New chicken breed)

I bought Buff Ameraucana hatching eggs!

I really don’t like the muffs and breads but it shouldn’t be too much of a hassle to breed them out. I have two separate notebooks on the project planing and I’m always drawing breeding lines for the future of the project. Buff Ameraucanas seemed to make sense especially when I reintroduce new Yokohama blood in a generation or two. Just my thoughts for now 👍

Notice how the top two eggs have a better color than the rest. I marked those to make sure I know which chicks hatch from them. Hopefully it’s a male and I’ll probably sell the rest locally 👍

I finally was able to a picture of the buff sister (Sandy) next to the tamed buff (Hugh Mungus).

Sandy is on the left and in the photo by herself. Her buff color is more if a golden than a light brown like her sister. Sandy is not trusting of me at all but she has been treated the same as her siblings. I might just breed her to her brother (Chesterfield) to improve the buff color and not sacrifice the long tail in the process.

Update on the project!

Unfortunately, non of the Buff Ameracuna's made it pass their first week. Only 2 of the 6 eggs hatched and seemed very weak. The other 4 eggs were fully developed in the egg but failed to hatch. Extremely odd, as it's the first time I've ever had trouble with incubating eggs. We'll probably revisit the Buff Ameracunas further down the breeding project.

For now, we have some amazing chickens to share with you!

Hope you enjoy our flock!

Our golden boy, Chesterfield.

He's got some amazing coloring coming in and is very docile. You'll notice that the chickens I'm not holding on to are very docile. The others tolerate my presence but don't like to be too close to me if I don't have food.

Chesterfield's sister, Hugh Mungus.

She had the longest tail as a chick and was huge for her size. Now she's looking more normal and the tail is not as long as I thought it would be. But I here that the next generation is usually when the tail gets back to a long length.

Still undecided wether we'll breed her to her brother or to our schijndelaar, Shinji.

Shinji, our Schijndelaar.

Mind you, all of these birds are 4 months old or younger. You'll also notice that Shinji Is not true to type as he does not have a pea comb, which makes me nervous about breeding him. I know he came from a blue egg and was part of GreenFire's Schijndelaar flock. I prefer the straight comb but the gamble has me kinda nervous lol

If we do keep/breed him, he'll be paired with Hugh Mungus and Fye's sister. As both of them definitely don't have the blue egg gene. And even then, I would have to keep a lot of their daughters to see if any lay blue eggs. But we do have Shinji's sister 👍
