Hey all!

I recently built a new coop a couple months ago out of rough cut pine lumber from a local mill.

I'm getting ready to paint the outside with glidden grab-n-go barn red and white paint(to give a classic barn style look).

What im posting about however is the floor of the inside of the coop. Last one I built I painted the floor with exterior paint I had laying around then covered with 1x1 peel and stick laminate tiles and it seemed to work great.

I may have paint kicking around but don't have anymore laminate tiles. So im looking for the best way to preserve the wood at the best price before winter hits.

Thanks all!

While many people do seal the floors of their coops,

If you keep your coop absolutely dry inside then the wood will not deteriorate. The untreated floor of my Little Monitor Coop is always bone-dry under my Deep Bedding and it's in perfect condition.

I used two coats of Behr Porch and Floor paint. I happened to be at HD getting paint for the coop when I saw an "Oops" can of Porch and Floor paint for only $10. I snatched it up. It's working great.

I try to do the same. I typically have a regular maintenance regiment. But currently speaking I just has surgery close to a month ago and am not allowed to lift over 5 pounds bend or twist. So I have some awesome friends stopping by to help feed, water and clean(quickly if needed). Every few days while I heal. My wife would do it but she's also under strict orders from the doctor to not lift either after a scare at 27 weeks pregnant. Even though she doesn't listen to it too well(to a degree). I made it clear I don't want her overdoing it as she's already on her feet all day at work. I guess it's me being me trying to get as much out of what I put in as I can 😂

We put some sheet vinyl flooring down. The Big Box store had some precut and rolled, that was cheaper than the kind they cut for you. We just nailed it down around the edges. I've seen others that have run it up the walls a little, to provide some wall protection.
I've heard of folks using this but I think I read that if it's in an enclosed space it cannot be occupied for 24 hours. Obviously I wouldn't need a 5 gallon pail of it. Maybe 2 at best...when I started looking back before I built this seemed to be the cheapest, "fastest" and most effective way to achieve what I was hoping to do. But real experience versus some experience and some research is best.
