Best way to trap nuisance neighborhood Chihuahuas

That one in Corpus looks kind of small. Doesn't look as big as raccoon size.
I'd be using craigslist brownsville, but thank you for the input. No way I'm driving 2 hours to save a bit of cash but spend it all in spades on a half tank of gas in the Jeep.

edit---- walmart had racoon livetraps for around 35 and I bet my feed store has a better deal!

One thing I found when trying to trap a cat in my basement was that they can go in the trap without stepping on the trigger plate. What I did was put a folded towel in the trap so that they couldn't SEE the trigger plate and also, if they stepped on both ends of the towel, the towel it's self would press the trigger.

I've been down similar road with my neighbors - dogs running and feral cats. I also live in Texas. Involving animal control is a tedious process but it has it advantages.

First I provided photographic evidence of the problems. They provided free loaner live traps. Cats dogs and skunks were caught. A quick call to animal control brought their truck to my place and they collected the dogs and cats and took them back to the shelter. No one owned the cats but the dogs owner confronted me I was honest replied that I can was having problems with the feral cats however their dog had been caught in the live trap and animal control had to be called because it was their trap and I was not allowed to release or dispose of any animals caught by their traps. After one fine to get the dog out of jail and more money for vaccinations and another fine for having no license, $200 plus later their dog was never seen roaming again nor were any other dogs roaming after they got their dog out of hock. Bad news travels fast.

The skunks belonged to animal control also. They dispatched them in the trap. Definite advantages to using their traps.

The other option is to simply be a very concerned and compassionate neighbor concerned for the welfare of your neighbors neglected pets. Call animal control, describe the conditions - no water food or shelter - and animal control will inspect the premises and oh yeah, issue warnings for no license and or required state vaccinations that turn into citations after so many days if they do not show proof of resolving the problem.

It's all about thinking harder working easier and spending their money.

My wife and I were discussing this very thing as a possibility. I had luck when I lived in the city limits of Harlingen getting them out to trap a neglected chihuaha that was running the streets and completely tick infested. I had asked around in that neighborhood and people knew the dog but didn't want to implicate any owners. I'll see if I can get a similar response from the county. I'm 99.9% sure none of these animals are compliant with the one required vaccination per Texas law. Food/water is not reliably given to their animals last summer the one adult dog I bought from them for $50 because she loved me( loved the fact that I recognized she was asking me for food or water) has been sent on to Illinoise now after getting a full vetting and vaccination regimine from us.

Because of these actions I am not in the top ten of well liked homeowners in our neighborhood. It comes down to this.

When a homeowner ignores their responsibility to be responsible pet owners and ignores city codes and ordinances and allows their animals to roam free they are infringing on my property rights. They are defining and limiting what I can do on my property. They are telling me what I can and can't do on my piece of dirt without writing a check to me.

When I finally understood what these ignorant selfish SOBs were doing to me on my property I had no hesitation to pursue every legal way to make them spend their money to comply with city ordinances. No one tells me what I can and can't do on my piece of dirt. I made myself the victim of their actions and sought relief through the city courts.

Now if I can just get rid of that damn bobcat. I'll trade you one 045.JPG bobcat for your ankle biters any day.

Yes my plan is to use live traps, I'll also explain targeting raccoon and possums, but offer him a final notice that should I trap any other animals(dogs/cats) they are all going to animal control and where regardless of if I know who the owner is or not.

I think I will comparison shop a local feed store and TSC. TSC wanted 70 for the last ones I saw there for what look like 30 dollar traps to my eye.
Are you fairly handy with any extra chicken wire and wood? If so you can BUILD a trap for no cost. https://pin.it/ucqjurihe7ozne
