Beyond frustrated…

It’s snowing, so I didn’t want to drive an hour to IFA for chicks. Then decided to try our local farm store(prior problems, long story) they were expecting 100 chicks. Well they didn’t get there shipment, no chicks. So decided to drive the hour, get there and all they got were bantams and polish. They didn’t get the others they anticipated. Ugh…. So frustrating, came home empty handed today.

Its sorta hard to find chicks right now, but fortunately I have a incubator! have you considered trying to hatch some yourself...?

This is why I keep at least one rooster - I can always replenish my flock internally if everything goes to heck and there really are no chicks to purchase. But not everyone has that luxury of keeping a roo, and it's nice to get the breeds you want.

Where in the world are you located? Have you tried posting on your local thread on this site? There may be a member near you offering chicks or hatching eggs.

I have 8, 2 week olds and 3, 1 week olds. From my oldest batch, they came from breeders and I have 3 roosters so far. I plan on buying 5 more chicks from that breeder, maran mixes. I expect more roosters, all of these are straight run. In hopes of a dozen hens, and deal with the roosters later. But hatching them myself is a whole other deal. I don’t have an incubator and then it takes 21 days. It’s a whole other set of things I’m not really wanting to deal with right now, unfortunately.

Good luck establishing and increasing your flock. Many are doing the same thing this spring.
