I got my first goose egg today. Not sure which of the two that were guarding it and talking about it laid it. I eventually was able to collect it after they went outside. I'm gonna check to see if it's fertile. They are all supposed to be females, but 2 hang out together. I do read 2 females may form a pair bond without a male around. They definitely were proud of their egg. I sure hated to remove it, but I wanted to have a look at it.

It's just the first egg so if you leave the rest the chances are high they will set them if you want more?
Don't males look different?

They were sold sex, and the male was DOA. They seem to all be females as I see nothing different except for a thicker head on the one defending the egg this morning. I believe them all to be females, but you never know.

The ones I'm getting in June are Pilgrims. Those you can tell because the gander will be white.

Umm. Well. The mother silkie hen accidentally hung one of the babies and killed it. It got stuck in her “fur” by its neck. :hmm
I had one Cochin chick get repeatedly stuck to the hens feathers. I had to keep freeing it. So it does happen unfortunately. So sorry. :(
