I have a breeding pair of Bielefelders that are 1.5 yrs old. I just noticed my hen has single spur growing on her left leg, it's about an 1" long. Is this a trait that would not be desirable if my plans are breeding for sale? I'd like to breed quality birds and both my hen and rooster are beautiful with the exception of her one spur.
I have managed to get a single pullet off this pair, she is currently 2.5 weeks old. Would the hen having a spur be a genetic trait that would be passed on in her line?
And really as far as "show" standards or breed standards go, how is a hen with one spur viewed?
Thanks!
*I posted this before in the wrong section yesterday...so sorry if it looks like I'm double posting.
