It is only a problem if there is edema in that area, right? You'd notice stretched skin and fluid underneath. Ascites doesn't look pretty.

Hello I waswatching my Marans eating today [butts facicng me] and i noticed one of the 3 its like she has a big bottom with hips,they are the same age, and all just starting laying, all seems healthy, but her backside,is alot fuller or fatter,[like she's pregnant], and the poop is getting stuck to the feathers, i washed her earlier, but poop still gets stuck,,is this normal? thanks for the help its the one on the left

I know this is late in response but I was just researching red swollen butt on my chicken and this post came up. I found out that this is called water belly (Ascites) and can't be cured by what I have read or found on-line. I hope this helps anyone else that is looking for a answer.
