Big Change Coming in Egypt

Word is out - peaceful crowd in the square in Cairo has been getting huger and huger day by day - more reports are coming out that Pres. Mubarak will resign very soon.

11:15 am here, and 6:15 pm there. The whole country watches.

We looked up Egyptian recipes for our Egyptian party when Mubarak resigns, and discovered every dessert recipe starts with, 'Take three cups of sugar....' LOL.

We're going to have Egyptian chile to celebrate, whenever it happens. A layer of spaghetti, a layer of rice, and on top, chile cookied with fresh tomatoes, beans, minced beef, and lots of garlic and lots of hot!

I'm starting to have hopes that this can be a "peaceful" structured handover to something that works insted of just an interlude to another strong-man president-for-life. It is not over yet and people had to die for this to happen.

I do not consider this over when Mubarak leaves. That is still worth a party but I consider this over when somebody in charge hands over peacefully to someone else elected democratically in a hard-fought open election. Much like the US. I consider one of the great moments in our history was when Adams and Jefferson had a hard-fought election, Adams won, and Jefferson resisted the urgings of some of his supporters to start a civil war to take over the government. Instead, Jeffferson decided to wait until the next election. Then when Jefferson won, Adams handed over to him. That set a nice precedent.

We'll have a party on each occasion, that's how we roll.

Egyptian food, especially the bread, is way, way beyond addictive. I'll post instructions on how to make it if anyone is interested. And I'm getting much more relaxed about the dessert recipes that all start with, 'Take 3 cups of sugar..."

Oh! It's canary grooming day! Oh! It's the inauguration of papyrus harvesting season!(that's a joke, papyrus is basically a weed and grows constantly). Time to have a party!
