He should start eating when he realizes he's hungry. (Chickens do like dustbaths to. Mine certainly do)

some pet stores have adult button quail, but I got my eggs from http://www.zebrafinch.com/Pricelist/Quail_eggs.html. the owner of the site says he does not guarantee fertility, but almost all are fertile. we had a few crack during shipping but that is expected.

we fed our chick a little water, then he ate a small piece of food and didn't want to eat any more. he's getting quite fast on one leg! he likes to scoot around, and peeps...alot.

Is there any way to splint his leg? it's in quite a strange position so the drinking glass method didn't really work.

I'm sure you have to keep the chick on the glass for quite awhile. I do think there are other methods. Try giving him vitamins to help make him stronger.

if he makes it to adulthood, we're thinking of buying a coturnix quail to give him company.

@Eggcessive what kinds of vitamins can help with strength in a new chick? We've been using electrolytes from sav-A-chick but is this enough?

I think one reason that causes splayed leg in newly hatched chicks is weak parents. You might have a word from your egg supplier.
