BIG emergency, small chick. HELP!

We've figured out he has a slipped tendon or a birth defect. Most likely a birth defect. splinting can't fix it. for now, he's strong and healthy, so if he can live with his bad leg, then looks like he will. he's been doing laps around the brooder scooting around. :p we thought maybe amputation of that leg could make it easier for him to move, but not as a chick obviously. he's so small, a drop of blood would practically be half his body. maybe when he's older? is there any way to get his leg out of the way so he doesn't have to drag it?

I've never heard of having a chickens(or quails) leg removed. Maybe get him peg leg. Did you try splinting at all? Hopefully with some vitamins, it should help him get stronger as he gets older, poor little guy.

Hi, Sorry to hear your news, on your chick. What a fighter lol. Been thinking if a small
end of a lollipop stick, would help. And wrap it around with this tape below. Although i live in UK, it is not expensive at all. You can buy it anywhere, especially pharmacy.
Been racking my brain, here lol, what could help. Even thought of like a sort of tube,
and use the tape to keep it on, or even get like a new thin bandage, or crepe bandage.
Then wrap it around the leg, and use the tape to bind and hold it. Not tight as you can
gather. lol But whatever the outcome, i can tell, you already have a special bond with
her. Although i have not used it on a chick, that young, thought i would let you know
Anything is worth a try. Let us all know, how she gets on. Well done you. :clap

i’ve seen quite a few hatch related problems like this in silkies, quail etc.....all you can do is keep the little one as comfy as possible for as long as possible and let nature take its course. I had a crippled silkie that made it to 6 months old before I finally made the “tough” decision to cull. I’ve had quail that made it to 3+weeks. with this guy being a button and living life indoors as a pet, will have a good life despite the leg problem!! (and probably even more spoiled!)

Have you tried hobbling it?? I heard thats a ix for splayed leg. Though not for deformities though.
