Tiny weighs 460grams, we got him with the rest of the flock at the end of March 2019. He is my smallest bird at the moment most of my others are Plymouth barred rocks with a few little bantams.
Tiny is gaping the classic stick the beak up and gasp for air. He started this on Sunday. It wasn't a slow build up it was a very sudden "it's hard to breathe" situation. Accompanied by barking which seems involuntary. It almost sounds like he has hiccups. No other chickens are showing signs of anything.
He is eating and drinking normally but he is trying to nap and rest more than anyone else. He even comes up to me willingly so I can hold him while he sleeps. His poop looks totally normal as well.
Sunday when I first caught this we immediately started fenbendazole as suggested by the internet and our local feed store. It was suggested we do this for 3-4 days. today is day four and he was looking a little better yesterday but sounds a lot worse today. I just really want him to be able to breathe and feel better. Poor guy the barking ( I'm sure it's to try and clear his throat ) keeps him awake so he isn't getting rest. He doesn't have any other signs than the gaping and barking and being tired.. no running nose or eyes or anything. Fairly certain gape worm is the only thing that can cause this?
He doesn't like being seperated from the girls for long or I would have him inside until he was feeling completely better but I don't want to stress him anymore than he already is.
I'm not sure but I've read maybe Ivermectin injections might be useful if he isn't getting better? I'm not sure how long it usually takes for these medicines to work since this is our first year with chickens and first time dealing with this. Thank you for all your help and advice
