It shows up as English on my computer. I thought the author was Dutch, so it showing up in German for you is possibly a little odd. I've been using it for a number of years. No problems to speak of. Incredibly helpful and easy to use.

the chicken calculator is helpful, a good learning tool, and really fun to play around with when your bored, but I do think it needs some refinement... better illustrations, or even photos( like on the duck version), of colors... the little icons at times leave a lot to the imagination... and not everybody understands genetics(the advanced genetics stuff on the calculator is a little imposing to the uninitiated, or even to those like me with only a basic understanding of genetics), so having the genotype and specific gene selection in an "advanced" mode, and a "basic", phenotype only mode for those who find that a little daunting.... the basic mode might realistically only be good for one, maybe two generations depending on the crosses, but it would be less "scary" to some people...

Yes, it does show up in English. However, ALL the other languages are also shown. Plus the "colors" are not per our SOP. Its a wonderful site. But if BYC could design one just for the American SOP it would be easier for novices to understand.

Perhaps they could work with the current one to develop an all American SOP calculator.

do you mean list the colors by the names used in the American SOP, or only calculate with colors that are accepted in the SOP... the first one I agree would be a good idea, the latter, not so much...

The color names of the SOP. Though some colors are not yet accepted.

that wouldn't be a big deal... even if the color isn't recognised by the APA in any breed , it usually still has a name... wouldn't be too hard to add just a little "NR" icon on the non-recognised colors' images...

not sure how feasable this would be, but another feature I believe would be helpfull would be the ability to, after entering several generations, to select one of the results and have the calculator generate something like a pedigree chart, of all the crosses in that session that produced the selected result...

I'm personally perfectly fine with the Chicken Calculator however I do think a long-term pedigree type would be nice. If people want to know what A x B = the best thing to do is ask in the genetics section by posting a new thread to ask, or PM a user you think could answer the question for you.

I think if we were to use photos instead it is best we get ones with colors that BEST MATCH the color, and I truly mean that. It would be nice to see true examples of a color, not poor quality or almost there ones. I think that's why illustrations are always a better idea. Plus with illustrations you get a much better idea of the color since it can be replicated onto the same type/shape of chicken each time.

For many people its German and weird but one on nyc would help I reckon we should adopt the current layout of the German one and clearly out line the difference bet seen close rlafives like the ones mentioned above

Also if one was on byc there would be easier acces. Al because the current.dutch one is not even known to byc community its should be here on the websitealso this would become another Google search result for this website which would allow for.even.more people to join byc

While I have used the kippenjungle calculator I would appreciate a more user friendly one on BYC.

We have decided to allow some cross breeding for our backyard chickens, and while we know what chickens we started with some of them just don't fit any of the descriptions. I can't seem to get answers to things like, "Is feathered legs and feet dominate?" or "Is muff and beard dominate?" and I agree it would be nice to know possible egg colors for mix breeds, if that is possible.

Thank you for the possibility. It would be a huge undertaking, but well used.

If you mate a Cochin with say an Orpington, the feathered shanks should disappear in 2 or 3 generations. However, stubbs may appear for numerous generations in a few birds. Many still find small feather stubbs in Orpos, Rocks, Wyandottes etc.

The Lavender/Self Blue Orpington was developed from a Lavender Ameraucana. Again, after about 2 or 3 generations the beard and muff will completely disappear. Can be some without in the first generation.

Some of us do not read every thread and may miss your questions. Hope this helps you.
