Big Rant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Same situation here. Whenever some well-meaning family busybody asks me this, I ask, "What kind of parent has their kids abandon them? How bad would you have to be for your children to feel safer away from them"

Sounds like your son knows what's up. That is what matters.

Debi I am so sorry

it is especially hard to deal with when it is the one person who is supposed to always be there for you, your mother.

You need to just express your feelings to her as you have us....let her know it hurts you and can longer deal with it. Cry in private but stick to your guns until she "gets a clue"

It always baffles me how family can be so harsh sometimes! Like everyone else has said, there really is no way to change her. I think it would be best too, just to stay FAR away from her at this point! After all, she only makes you feel bad, and you are a great person, and surely don't deserve that kind of treatment, even if it is your mom!!

Government at its best again ...
We've been through this with all our kids... we are "tweeners". We don't make enough money to pay for college outright, but we are above the poverty level, so we don't qualify for grants, only loans.

As far as the FAFSA, they require tax info for the parents or legal guardian of any student under 24 years of age unless they are married or have been declared an emancipated minor.

Stinks, I know, and it sounds like mom is only making things worse by lying to them. I'm so sorry Debi.

I understand what your mother was doing. She was fibbing to make it easier for your son to get the financial aid he needs. Probably her income was a lot less than yours, so she sought to use that figure on the application.

This is called lying and fraud. Sometimes people do not realized they are commiting fraud when they do it. Fraud is something greasy politicians and lawyers do. Not people like us.

Just remind your mother that it would be your son going to the slammer if they got caught. And, just maybe her too.

Prison is not a good place to start a career, even if you went to DeVry.

I have told all this to her as well as the reason I am not giving her the tax returns - I think she would alter them!!!! I told me son this morning, when he goes to this meeting, he needs guidance on private student loans. What was hurtful is the way she SCREAMED at me. I think she needs her medication increased. And I also think I need to just stay away from her.

Give over the tax returns TO YOUR SON. Deal mama out of the equation. Everyone has to do this to get the financial aid their kids need.

Don't make your son suffer because of your family problems.
