I would never ship anything using ups.For live birds and animals always ship express overnight. It is more expensive but they get there usually the next day.And never ship after wed.Remember even during shipping they need something to eat.I always cut apples for their journey so they have food and it also gives them moister. This may be difficult for chicks as they really don't know how to eat anything other then mash or crumble,so throw some in for them

Pretty sure they charge more for special days like Sunday and holidays, though and not all post offices have that ability. I don't know about big post offices, but I know here, no one is working in the P.O on Sundays.

We don't have Sunday Express delivery at our small rural PO either....

The place they were going is not a small town, or at least I do not consider it that. Yeah, I have a small town PO. But I can say I have also gotten an express package delivered on Sunday as well, it comes out of the larger PO in the next town, but they sent someone special to deliver because it was Express, and no the person sending (My Mother) did not pay extra to have it delivered Sunday.

No extra fees and in most cases they call the number on the box for you to come pick them up.
(I've had them call me at 3 a.m. before!) There is usually some one at all Post offices 24 hours a day. Maybe not little local towns like mine. But here, Valdosta is a medium size city 10 miles from here. They go there first anyway, and if it is a special package sent Express arrives, they always call for pick up, and yes they have sent special delivery to me on Sundays and Holidays before. It's all part of that High dollar Express Fee. I use it exclusivly for shipping all my birds, even our Day olds.

Hmmm...interesting...may just depend on the P.O then. Though it doesn't sound like your package is anywhere close to its destination, anyway and I would agree that they shouldn't have even taken the package for shipping Friday if they had any indication that they could not get it there on time.

Ours comes out of Douglasville, in fact when I had my breeding birds shipped in, our Postmaster, drove to DOuglasville to personally pick up my birds and I met her at the PO at 5pm. I know they made it to Douglasville and from what the Airport told me they made it out of there. Just have no idea if the "CS" people telling me they are on a truck , is accurate or not.

That might just be the last info they have on them if that's the last time they were scanned.

I'm definitely no expert. I only worked at the P.O for a year before I started maternity leave.

You live in the South. You should know how things move in this area. A commercial vechile is not allowed on the hiway here until after 1PM on Sunday. Shipping Friday was mistake.
