Big USPS Rant! This is so Unacceptable!!Arrived, Not good Pic added P6

I used grapes as they had been getting small pieces and liked them and also since they were jucier. I did a dozen grapes cut in half figuring this would give them moisture and food. I still honestly believe they would have made it had they not been tossed around.
I have never shipped Day olds, I have shipped chicks this age and older and never had an issue of any kind.
 
We've established that she shouldn't have shipped on Friday, so lets not beat a dead horse. We've learned from it, so on we go...

This goes for everyone... when you receive live birds/chicks, check them AT THE POST OFFICE, while in front of the clerk. This way there is NO DENYING they were late, and DOA.
 
Friday has nothing to do with it or that it took two days to arrive. The fact is 3 three week old little peeps cannot make a shipment because they cannot sustain proper body temps for it.

I've had well started birds take 3 days to reach their destination and they were fine and healthy and ready to eat when they were removed from the box. Sure the PO missed their guarantee, but the birds could handle the trip. That's our job to know if they can make it or not.

OP ~ I know now is not the time you want to think about it, but be sure and go in to the P.O and get a refund on that express shipping. You won't get compensated for anything else, but you will get the refund on that as long as they promised it within 24 hours on your receipt.
 
I have a routine I go through when shipping lives, even baby chicks. I admit that I am on a first name basis with all my local postal employees, so that makes it easier. I ship a lot of live birds , and I always try to do so on Tuesday. On Monday I call my PO and give them a list of the zip codes I'm shipping to. They call me back on Monday and tell me whether it will be a 1 or 2 day delivery time for the given zip codes. I then notify the buyers when they should expect their chicks or adult birds. On Tuesday I take the birds to the PO about an hour before the truck picks them up. When I get home with my Express Mail reciepts I once again notify the buyers of the birds/chicks with USPS tracking number so they can track the shipment. Sounds like a lot of work, but having gone through the era when lives could not be shipped via USPS, and everything but chicks were shipped Air Freight or Rail, it's a peice of cake.

This is very good advice. And I will say that despite me working at the P.O and shipping birds for years, a lot still do not know all the ins and outs of it. They just don't. A lot of post offices just don't deal with them enough to know all of it. They may not know what needs to be done i.e calling to see when they can go out, the temps, etc. so it's important that WE educate ourselves (and maybe them along the way, if possible) b/c we are the ones that need to do the best for these birds and getting them to their new location the best that we can.

I am so sorry that they did not make it. I hate the USPS with such a passion I cannot describe it.

Between the monkeys that work there and the baggae handlers at the airports, you can bet they were tossed around. I agree the picture proves that.

I know about the handlers at the airport...I had a dog arrive in germany dead from internal injuries. The vet told me he had ribs broken and internal bleeding. Now I am sure he did that to himself all 9 lbs of viciousness that he was, sedated in a carrier. NOT

Just so sad that so many people just do not care anymore.
