Globe or Navajo willows. They grow round! And blue sky!

Look closely. The license plates actually say "USA" because a lot of people across the country are not convinced NM is part of the Union. Seriously! We get asked if we have to convert our pesos to American dollars! And if the Indians still shoot arrows at us. (No, and no, lol.)

We get asked if we have electricity in Wyoming. And if we ride horses instead of drive cars.

Edit to add: we are one of the biggest energy producers in the US, mind you.

Here I am trying to get a pic of one of my Am cockerels. He was not cooperating at all, at all!

Must be an ameraucana trait 🤣 I absolutely cannot get a decent photo of mine. She's always the blur in the background 🙄 and if she gets close enough to scoop over to me, good luck hanging on.
Just look at that iridescence, even blurry it's beautiful! 🤣

@BigBlueHen53 you help so many people, it’s nice to hear about your flock and life 😊 what got you into chicken keeping?
Thank you, that's so nice of you to say!

What got me into chickens here in Missouri? In a word - TICKS! :sick I don't mind snakes very much, if I have to deal with them, I can and do. But ticks give me the creepy-crawly screaming meemies! I had always lived in CO, NM and AZ, and then ... I met a man on line. And he lived in MO! And MO has, you guessed it, those nasty creepy-crawlies that we DON'T have in the Southwest! So I said fine, I can live here, if I can have chickens! And the rest is history. That was 15 years ago and I'm still here, and happily married to him. ❤️ But I'm sorry to say that my sweet "GC," my 24-yo granddaughter that I call my GirlChild, is now allergic to red meat - any meat that comes from any mammal - due to a tick bite. It's called an alpha-GAL allergy. Nasty critters!

Aw thanks for sharing! I’m always curious about peoples journey into chicken keeping. Ticks are a good reason, I’ve heard guineas are really good for tick control, too. Perhaps not quite as charming as chickens, though lol

I’ve heard of that allergy before; a guy I worked with had it and it made him really sick when he ate red meat, it always baffled me. I did not realize it was from a tick bite, however. How interesting!

Guineas do not live up to their rep, I've had them before. They will eat about 90% of the ticks on their own body, not those in your yard! And believe me, they won't even stay in your yard. They won't roost in your coop, they want to live in trees, preferably your neighbor's, who of course sleeps during the day and HATES their unworldly racket, lol. If you have horses and feed them sweet feed, forgetaboutit, the horses aren't getting any, the guineas are eating it all. (Ask me how I know!) And they're not even good to eat. Believe me, chickens are far superior when it comes to tick control! :lau
