Buying a one acre piece of property in a subdivision... didn't I know 16 years ago that one day I'd want chickens and wouldn't want to be limited to 6 or less? What was I thinking?

My biggest regret is that I didn't put the feed into metal bins. Now we have mouse and rat issues. I know better now, but if I had known before hand, I would have probably prevented this issue. I think many of us are dealing with more mice and rats in this area this year. Ugh. I set traps for the mice, the rats drag off the mice bodies and the traps. I put poison out for the rats and they take it all, even the bags of it that I haven't even opened yet. I never see them but I'm finding holes in the yard all the time.

hey NC chicken man

you are about 1 1/2 hours from me being in Mount Pleasant.

I searched forever trying to find a small processor to do this and only could find the one in Siler City. Too far.

I always needed to put travel time and gas etc. on the cost of the processing etc. and the profit wasn't there if I had too much expense into this venture.

Do you process for others? Like 50-100 birds at a time? That kind of thing?

you got me curious now...thanks for any info!!!!

not making coop/run easy to divide for breeding, not having a floor, and putting the nest so you have to go in the coop to get the eggs..
