Biggest Chicken Regret - What's Yours?

Not starting full time farming sooner! and telling my husband I only wanted about 6 chickens....ha! 300+ chickens later and he's still building coops.

Oh How I love that man!

When we bought our home this year, my top requirement to the realtor was we had to be able to have Chickens and a Horse! Sorry you can't!!!

My regret with the chickens is not getting more initially. Like others, I built to what was needed at the time, not what I would need in the future!

My only, but huge, regret so far is that I gave up my 2 "spare" roosters, Luck and Silver, thinking that 3 would be too many, and that I'd have to get them 10 or 15 hens each.
Since then, I've learned that several people on here have numerous roosters living together peacefully, because they have tons of room to roam and plenty of stuff to do (not neccessarily 10 hens for each one, either). I REALLY wish I had not sold them, because most likely they ended up somebody's dinner, and they were really beautiful. I still miss them, and it's been almost 4 months.

my biggest chicken regret is a very sad one. in short, i bit of more then i could chew....an elderly breeder contacted me one summer, asking if i would be interested in taking over his entire flock. he's a well respected breeder, and idolized by several people within the breed circle. i gave it thought, and although i had 2 years of college (out of state) to complete, i decided to go ahead and lift the burden of his flock from him (with my parent's blessing, and their assurance that they would do their best to take care of them). he was very grateful, as was his family. unfortunately, due to my not being home for more than 3 months at a time during those 2 years, and due to my family being as busy as they were, and a few other problems (severe mite infestation on some when i picked them up that lead to infections and death)....almost the entire flock was lost. these were very rare too, and to this day i still feel as though i let him and the birds down. guilt and shame for taking on more than i could handle.....

let this be a lesson to you all. think long and hard when taking on more than 1 or 2 more birds to your flock.
