Bird bra

My goodness! You are right! This chick needs a bra! At least for a while.

You can make a bra easily. That might be more practical than trying to fit a small chick. I show a design in my article on crop disorders and how to fit it. https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...w-to-know-which-one-youre-dealing-with.73607/

You might want to monitor her crop. She may have a chronic disorder that is contributing to her pendulous crop condition - yeast or an impaction. If so, curing the disorder might cure the pendulous crop and she may not need a bra for long.

Right now she is a light reddish brown and white. I think when she is an adult she will be all brown. She is super mad at me right now because I have her in chicken jail on soft foods and water only and onlymin small amounts that are given throughout the day. I am waiting to see if she poops... she just wants to be outside in the sun with her sisters.

Oh my gosh, thankyou so much. I am going to try to make this right now. At the moment she is in chicken jail wearing a tube sock and she is pissed. Do you think that it would be ok if I brought the other girls in for the night so that she has the company? I don’t want to put her out there because she can’t be trusted not to eat the stupid bedding out there, an I am trying to keep her diet controlled to only squishy foods until I get this figured out. Saturday when I brought her in the house she looked like she was smuggling melons and she had dirt vomit just leaking out of her beak. I thought for sure she was a goner.

If she is vomiting (you mentioned leaking from the beak) she may have sour crop. This article was a true godsend for my Repecca/Roopecca (the name is another crazy story). I used the kit that had 3 suppositories and a small tube of cream ointment. I cut the suppositories into 4 pieces. The author has since mentioned finding the medication recommended in powder form which they add to coconut oil. I like that idea better. But before you run out and buy any medicine read this thoroughly and determine if your chook has sour crop or impacted crop. Either way your gal definitely has pendulous crop! I'm sure azygous can chime in here and explain the powdered med/coconut oil mix.

I bought my Roopeccas bra online here.

I found it fit best when placed on the chest vertically rather than horizontally. Also fit much better crossing the straps on his back rather than across the shoulders and across the back. Of course all birds are different so experiment a bit.

I've been unable to follow threads due to a malfunction in the alerts. I'm so glad you guys have carried the thread along, and especially thanks to @Cryss .

It really does sound like a yeast infection. If you started her on the miconazole last night , she should already be feeling better and her crop should be going down.

The chick might have impaction, as well. You will know if the crop fails to empty completely by tomorrow morning because you will feel a hard lump. Then you would need to treat for that.
