Bird Flu Crisis.

I am sorry about BIOSECURITY being all caps, auto correct does it. I can't edit my post.
Hi Enola, maybe it should be all caps.... sometimes I cringe at what I do -- Oh I picked up that chicken because I thought she may be under the weather -- Now I have to move the brooder chicks in 1/2 hour -- do I need to shower and change clothes?

Just wait till I put up this fence with a sign....authorized persons ONLY beyond this point.

im feeding kinchi for how ever long it takes thats not unreasonable by any means, so i have already been to the Asian market as soon as they opened this morning .....lol.... i usually go for prevention first above all else & that includes for all my animals, I even might try my hand at making my own kimchi, prevention has always been my first response first & above all else, all animals under my care have lived way beyond their life expectancy, including horses to age 42 thats 20 years beyond the average life expectancy of any horse, with no gray hair & a perfect top line, my parrot is now 40 years old and very healthy, plus all my giant dogs 15 English Mastiffs that were long lived beyond 15 years, with no hip problems so in the early stages of the parvo out brake , years ago all my giant dogs beat parvo & did it well.! all lived through a parvo infection, each was sick , but not badly sick at all, for about 3 days and on the 4th day all had recovered well , but my dogs never ate commercial dog food in their lives all generations of my Mastiffs were raised on healthy raw foods,so they got all the live enzymes & all they needed to remain healthy, and my mastiffs were all guaranteed for life..! so during the first parvo out brake all over the country the average dog food dog was dead in 24 hours from parvo, with no hope even under continuous vet care, no matter what the vets did to save them..! i remember a lot of champion dogs had die in the car on the way to the ves, sadly for their owners, they were all gone in a flash , with no hope in sight, ive heard of entire kennels that died in just days & almost all at once, it was crazy and scary , but i was not having any of that because optional health creates optimal resistance and is really the best course of action for any of us, being healthy enough to fight off any infection is the point, so weeks after my dogs had parvo, i took my entire kennel in to be tested and providing proof that all my dogs had survived parvo and lived..! and all had antibodies showing they survived parvo at a time when no shot had existed to prevent parvo, my vet was beyond amazed....lol.... like always....lol.. all my dogs remained healthy, strong & long lived, each survived that deadly outbreak 15 mastiffs, 6 pugs and 3, 6 months old pups ,all survived a parvo infection & lived , i never tried to prevent parvo on my property, but believed if animals were properly supported they would remain healthy and would develop their own immunities for what ever came their way..!!! and all my animals remained safe & alive unlike the millions of dogs in this county parvo killed ..! so the proof is in the pudding! as they say , but for this bird flu thing , we are all better off following the strict rule of prevention to stave off this horrible bird flu, since wild bird poo is every were ,and the fact that mostly all our birds came from hatcheries , & I dont feel the parent birds from hatcheries were any way near healthy enough to ever pass along good healthy genes to their offspring, so its now up to us, to remedy that situation by daily creating the best nutrition & prevention for all our birds...! we are all better off in doing that, first and above all else, & that has always been my motto...!!! o and we dont get flu shot either, we take a Chinese herb called astragalus for prevention everyday leading up to flu season. astragalus aids in digestion, and supports the liver & also keeps colds away, its the best..! so far so good, it has always worked for us in the last 30 years. so On ward and upward. as they say ...! below is my Bubba at 7 months old, a giant girl... indeed

I even might try my hand at making my own kinchi,

A) I would be concerned about the spiciness of kimchi. Some animals, dogs, cannot handle the spice of peppers. Kimchi is made with hot red pepper powder. Cayenne pepper will kill a cat. Cats will eat it because they do not have the taste-buds for spicy-hot.

B) the probiotics in kimchi are in other fermented foods -- including dill pickles -- fermented pickles, not the "pickled-in-vinegar" pickles. As has already been mentioned, sauerkraut is another option. It is kimchi without the fish and spices.

C) if you really want to do the probiotics-for-my-chickens thing try putting some kombucha in their drinking water. Actually, I have thinking about doing this myself. You can make your own kombucha. The starter culture is available from:

http://www.culturesforhealth.com/

They have everything anyone needs for fermenting -- including recipes for sauerkraut ... that you can feed to your chickens.

D) back to kimchi -- I can certainly attest to the very high quality of this recipe:

http://www.maangchi.com/recipe/tongbaechu-kimchi

I always have this kimchi and Maangchi's recipe for radish kimchi in the fridge. But like I said, I would not feed it to chickens. My chickens sometimes get into my garden. They never touch the nightshade plants (tomato, potato, eggplant, peppers (sweet and hot)). There is something in nature that tells the chickens to avoid peppers ... and they do.

Quote: Exactly ...!!! thats why i got the kind of kimchi that was not very hot at all made in ash land Oregon,by pickled planet organic kimchi , my parrot is chowing down on some right now ,and with every bite, he's saying yeah..!!! with great delight

..lol.. but not to choke out our chickens, i would only mix a small bit of finally chopped kimchi a few times a week ,mixed in with other foods that they love, the kimchi went down well today , it was gone in seconds mixed with mashed hard boiled eggs , next they were all out all day free ranging , Diannastarr
