that is the neatest story poult. I love it. Thanks for sharing. I think it's cool you were out and saw so many of the tiny things. I love how owls have their eyes set exactly in the front of their faces rather than kinda off to the side more so like other raptors. Hopefully your little visitors will be back.

Yeah I'm hoping next summer they will be :)

Yeah I don't take pictures of them either so what's on your life list?

Hi! I've been birding for 6 years now, mainly in my yard and county. My life list is 228 and my yard list is 148; I've also been keeping year lists. My favorite times of the year for birding are spring and fall, when migrants are moving. However, I do look forward to wintering species, such as Dark-eyed Junco and Rough-legged Hawk. Sometimes my chickens can be of help when it comes to spotting large birds soaring in the sky, such as hawks and cranes. When I see a hen repeatedly glancing upwards or hear the alarm growl of one of my roosters, I know there's a large bird flying overhead.

I don't have a list since I am so informal about it. But when I am out on hikes or walks and see a bird I've never seen before, I go bonkers, stare at him or her for a while to memorize coloring then go home to my computer, enter their descriptions and learn their names. When I was in New Zealand and Australia last year I did that a lot.

That's cool I do that too

Well I saw more Stellar Jays!
I love those and the male mountain bluebirds get me. Saw big ravens on hike today squacking and pecking at a frozen pond. Get juncos, nuthatches, black capped chickadees out my kitchen window all the time.
