on my walk home from work yesterday i went thru mirror pond and it was cold, foggy and near dusk. lots of birds were in the icy water just floating about and I couldn't wrap my mind around it. I know ducks and geese are adapted to that but geez, if I got into the water with them I'd die of hypothermia.
then I saw a big bunch of Canadian geese and some other much smaller black and white ducks foraging in a large group. it was so cute seeing the gigantic geese as compared to the tiny ducks. I kept a respectful distance and out of the middle of the group a bunch of those tiny ducks just flew off obviously because I had walked by but the geese stayed put. it was neat.
then last night I had a dream I saw a bunch of pintail ducks like the ones you had posted, poult. Wow. Now I am dreaming in duck. Funny.
That is really awesome i love all the bird talk! I havent seen anything out of the ordinaryHaven't been on here in a few days!Since we've been getting snow and single digit temperatures, the birds have flocking to my backyard in droves, especially the Pine Siskins. My highest count of today was 24! They tend to congregate with the American Goldfinches (I've estimated around 50 birds). I also saw the local female Pileated Woodpecker in the front yard around the 2nd of January. Pine Siskin and American Goldfinch

it is cool poult and weird. It was painful for me just to see them in the water even tho they can handle it. I was just projecting my humannessThats really neat and ducks cant feel the freezing temperatures of the water through their feet and their feathers are so thick and warm the water is just fine weird huh? Thats really cool BTW!![]()
