Poult, I am puzzled by something. I see all these backyard ducks or drakes people have and they have drake tail feathers. Then today on my run by a pond I slowed down to look at the mallard pairs foraging at the water's edge. Neither male had that feather. Don't the wild boys have them too?

Yes they do the feather is small and hard to see but also young drakes don't have them adults do and this time a year their all adult drakes so yes but again they aren't easily noticed so :idunno

And yes yesterday I saw the most beautiful little sharp-shinned hawk fly past the front of our car so pretty! Luckily not close enough to get hurt either!

OK, good to know they have them too. I'll get a closer look next time I am near them at the park where there are more around.

I've never seen one of those hawks. And good thing he didn't get too close to your car. I love raptors. They are such amazing birds.

Awesome get pics if you can!

Yeah I love them too so pretty and elegant killers!
That's what I love about raptors. So powerful and they're a bird. A bird like my tiny finches that I just wanna kiss and squeeze cuz they're so cute.

Your avatar is adorable. One of yours? I like how you always change it.

Yes that's it that is what makes them so amazing because birds are known to be weak and fragile but then you see a raptor and it just completely changes your view!

Oh thanks that is Assyra my african gander should be a gander could be a goose still though not totally sure man does he have an attitude he was getting in my face when I got the pic  and yeah I just like so many pictures and animals I change the pic a lot!

You are so right, birds are thought of as fragile and weak. But we know they aren't. Even hummingbirds, who travel thousands of miles w/out stopping during migration are mighty birds. And those geese Miss Lydia educated us about that fly over Everest. Birds ROCK!!!

Well, Assyra is cute. Do you always have to kinda keep your distance from him since he has an attitude? How's he towards Lewis and the turkeys?

Yes people forget how strong and determined birds truly are I mean tiny baby chicks break through the shell of an egg that must be so hard!

Nah he isn't that bad he gives little nips but he is still a gosling(I'll probably say this till he is two years old )he is ten months and he gets along with the all the birds really well especially the ducks they of course give random nips to the flock members to keep their rank but yeah Assyra and Damascus(my other goose) are both very functional members and very beautiful Assyra chases my cats when they get in the coop so there good protectors too although my cats have no interest in eating them here is Assyra giving me a good stern talk

I love the closeups of his cute face. He's sweet. It's funny he's giving you a stern talk. He probably feels good about himself.
