If the mother broods them & hatches them I will not deprive her of her success they will definitely be raised by mom in that case. But she is still a baby so she may not be ready for that in which case I will be hatching and rearing them inside.

Ok, that makes sense then because I've been following other duck threads where people have incubators and I always wonder if they bought their fertile eggs from somewhere else or why they had the things in the first place if the eggs were laid on site by one of their own hens. So I see that it can depend on the hen's age and maybe a few other factors. Then if you bring them in and they are so tiny do you feed them with a syringe?

LOL no soon as they break out of that egg they are up walking around and can eat and drink on their own but want to hear something super cool!

Yes! Ok so right before hatching the ducklings/goslings/chicks/poults they engulf the yolk in their abdomen & so when they hatch they don't have to eat or drink for three days that's why hatcheries can ship them from so far!

that is fascinating how nature provides them nourishment. When reading other stuff about people shipping birds all over the place I always wondered how they survived. You listed poultry type birds that have this capability. What about finches and raptors and other birds? They all come from eggs.

I'm unsure about those birds but I do know raptures & finches both can't feed themselves when born
interesting and fascinating how different birds are even tho they come from an egg. That makes sense. Maybe it's because some birds depend on their parents' regurg and normally those are born super helpless whereas waterfowl aren't as such and can be sustained on their own for a short time. Cuz I see that newborn ducks are practically up and around and other species aren't. Just a guess...

Yes no your right most species after hatched would be extremely helpless without mom compared to ground birds & waterfowl.
nature has such amazing adaptive measures ensuring survival. I've learned so much from people like you, poult, when it comes to birds.
