We just went out to check our chickens and found one had been attacked. it is about 6 weeks old.
We have brought it inside and discovered that one of its wings has been partially chewed off by some beastie.
Most of its lower wing is missing with some partial bone remaining. Bleeding has been stopped.
Chicken is eating egg whites and yolk, grower finisher feed and drinking water with Sulmet in it.
It gets up and walks around and comes to us to be cuddled.
It doesn't act like it is in pain.
No vet in area will see chickens, so I am on my own for treatment.
Do I need to cut of the remaining bone at the joint or will this cause more harm than good? We fear it will be an easy path for infection if we leave the partially chewed bone with no skin or muscle over it.
What would be the best way to staunch the blood flow?
How should we cover the wound? Would gauze and tape work?
Our only farm supply store is over an hour away, so we don't want to make a two hour trip to get supplies if we can use what we already have here.
Thank you in advance.
