Do any of you know what kind of hawk this is? He's small, less than a foot tall. He likes to chase small birds around, and sits a tree for hours each day.

I don‘t think we have that species here, but I put the photo into my birding app and it suggests either a Cooper’s hawk or a Sharp-shinned hawk.

This thread is for all birdwatchers! What birds do you see around you every day? What birds are your favorite? Seen any rarities recently? I'm wondering how many wild bird lovers we can pull out of hiding!

I live in Idaho. Around me I normally see American Robins, European Starlings (invasive), House Sparrows (also invasive), Mallards, Canada Geese, American and Lesser Goldfinches, House Finches, Red-tailed and Swainson's Hawks, Mourning and Collared Doves, and American Kestrels.

My favorite birds are probably American Kestrels and Ospreys, though it's hard to choose because there are so many cool birds!
I like catbirds and black capped chickadees the most. Could i share some stories?

first, i had a birdfeeder with seed in it, i had went underneath it and the birds would land on my head. that was fun.

we also had grey catbirds in the bushes, it was funny cause i thought it was a baby kitten, i had went in this thorn bush with thorns and pricks ALL over me when it was just a kitten sounding bird! But not just that, they were babies! I got to see them grow up which was very fun (i do have pictures of it which i can post if anyone is intrested

once when i was young a squrriel was in a bird feeder and i had poked its butt. worth it? :lau

Also, some random bird pictures, most taken with my Dad's camera. Does anyone know what kind of hummingbird the purple and green one is?

Ok, one more try at hummingbird identification, after this I promise I will leave you alone. Did the one in the 3rd photo look anything like this?

This species is supposedly uncommon but they migrate into your area.

Rufous hummingbirds look like the brown and red one. I know we have those!
According to The Sibley Guide to birds, the Rufous has buffy orange flanks. I don't see any orange in your photos. The Calliope is the smallest hummingbird in NA and fairly quiet. There is also the Broad-tailed humming bird which is found not far from you. My guess is that it is one of these. But I also live on the other side of the continent, and we don't get either of those birds.
