Bessie: Mama says she's sorry she can't let us come on the dumb-puter more oft-
Charlotte: "Computer"
Bessie: No, this time I'm right, Charlotte. Every time Mama tries to use it she says, "oh, why won't this *dumb* thing cooperate?!" See? "Dumb-puter"
Agnes: Girls! What about our manners?
All Chickens: Hello, everychicken!
Anne: Mama brought us some grass!
Emily: Yeah, it's juicy and planted in dirt.
Bessie: We can smell the dirt, but can't get to it yet, the grass is still in the way.
Agnes: I like when Mama sprinkles some of our feed among the grass and we can scratch to get it.
Emily: You can only scratch it because I toppled it over!
Anne: I like when Emily pulls a piece of grass free and I can snatch it for a game of "keep away" with my sisters

Buttermilk: Mommy was gone for AWHILE yesterday!
Bisquick: It went from almost 60*F yesterday to down in the low 20's!!!
Omelette: Grammy gave us warm rice and bread this morning. :3
Pippy: Peanut was collecting dry grass for her 'burrow' this morning.
Hedwig: It was F-A-REEZING this morning!!!!
Hazel: The coop is nice and warm though. :3

Cheep: It has been really warm but we got a cold streak today and yesterday
Peep: Mommy put some more shavings in our warm area and shut the door during the night so we would be snug
Brownie: Oh yes it was very snuggly!
Lilly: I slept alone cause no one would sleep with me!
Marie: Sorry Lilly I just really wanted to sleep with Mocha. We kept each other warm!!
Mocha: Oh yes And then we got midnight snacks!
Lilly: WITHOUT ME??!?!
Mocha: You were out like a light Lilly! We didn't want to wake you up.
Cheep: Ok why don't we just stick with out normal sleeping buddies. Cause this always happens when we don't.

Elanor: COYOTE!!!! (Runs inside from pen) CODE ONE ORANGE ALERT, WE HAVE A PREDATOR SIGHTING! LEVEL WILD CANINE!! REPEAT, WE HAVE A PREDATOR! COYOTE!! CLEAR RUN AND IMMEDIATELY GET INSIDE COOP!! REPEAT, EVACUATE RUN AND GET INSIDE COOP!!
Marianne: *Pokes head from covered run into playground* Okay, I'm closing up the playground area! It doesn't look like there's anyone else in it! *Slams playground doors shut*
Elanor: Good thing we're not free-ranging!
Sophia: Quick girls, inside the coop! You cousins, you four get in there too!!!
Marianne: We need to take roll call! *Yanks out roll sheet and calls roll while Sophia shuts the pop door*
Elanor: All three of us plus all four cousins are present and accounted for!

All chickens: Predator alert!
Charlotte: Is everychicken in the Early Bird Flock alright?
Agnes: You were so well organized, it was more thrilling than frightening! We really must get a predator plan in place before we make the move outdoors...
Emily: Mama says our covered run will take care of that.
Bessie: And, puppy Portia says she'll take care of us when she's not busy napping on the couch.
Anne: I can't wait to scratch outside! That grass Mama brought for our brooder just didn't last long enough.

Sunrise: Selena, we don't get tornados here! That's the EAST COAST!!!
Susan: it seems like everyone on this thread is getting stormy weather exept us!

Sunrise and Susan: No! stop! It's not real, Selena just heard...

Susan: Auroura ,you just don't understand! Selena was panicking over an east cost tornado warning...
Auroura: Now on my whistle, March through coop into celler!! FWEEEEEEEEEE!
Autumn: Celler? what celler?
Selena: Didn't you read the emergency procedures handbook? below the nestboxes!
Sunrise: How is that safer than anywhere else in the coop?[line reaches celler]

Sophia: When Sunrise, Susan, Autumn, Aroura, and Soccer first moved in, they got together and developed an emergency plan, like the big egg farm had. remember this post??

Re: coyote alert!

This is Sophia, and I am e-mailing to report that there are coyotes in the area. One of them actually approached the humans' yard at twilight last night, so they are either very bold or very hungry. Stay inside a secure coop or run, and always listen for the coyotes!

Anne: And, sometimes I fell asleep. I couldn't help it
Bessie: Don't worry, Anne. You've been growing sooo much, and growing is tiring work!

Agnes: Sorry you all have to stay inside, but being safe is worth it.
