I hope you requested the dog be put down, that's insane! Just imagine if it was your kid it latched on to.
My BIL just had one of his dogs put down for biting - it was one of those who knows why things, dog wasn't aggressive or whatnot, but it bit a kid, so he agreed to take it in to be euthanized. It was an older dog, and he's got 3 little ones, so no chances.
I'm the first person who would defend a dog for biting.... evaluate the circumstances before something as permanent as killing the dog happens. I have a dog that bit a kid (self defense on the dog's part) and I have a kid that was bitten by a dog (dog attacked for no reason). Every situation is different, and the understanding of how and why a dog would bite is critical when making an assesment of the particular situation.
That being said, from what was described to me this/these dog(s) were in attack mode and have been allowed to continue this behavior. NOT acceptable!!!!
Send dog owner the bills.
Walk your property with a gun; this MIGHT help and it might not. Dogs are ambush hunters so they sneak up on you...... it is the quiet dog you have more to fear from than the yappy one.......
I hope you heal fast but I know it will hurt worse today then yesterday then should start to heal the muscle bruises are the worse. I hope that something is done with these dogs since it seems the owner just lets them do what they want and they are in that wild pack thinking. I would sue the owner but more then likely her house insurance if owns her home will end up paying the costs.
I love dogs, have 5 of them. But if one became a biter, they would be put down immediately! In fact we rescued a puppy a couple years ago, loved it, raised it around our other dogs and it began to attack the others at about 2. I took it to the vet and had it put down.
I read the posts and if AC picks up the dog and she pays a fine, you will be in the same situation. I would speak to an attorney, you may be able to sue her and as part of it, have her agree to not keep dogs. It is definitely worth a shot.
Hope you get better soon and praying that your kids can soon feel safe in their own yard again
Yeah, this dog has learned that this is good behavior. He bit, got in no trouble when he did it and chased us off the property - again more than his own land..... So he is expanding his territory and defending it. There is no motivation for him to change his behavior as it is working! He's acting like a dog - gosh who'd a thunk a dog would act like one??
You know those injury lawyer commercials that blanket TV? Call one of 'em. Try and find out who insures this lulu's home and report the dog bite. They'll threaten her with cancellation unless she gets rid of little precious puppykins.
You poor thing, I'm sorry that happened to you but I thank God it was you and not one of your kids!!! I would call animal control, I take that back, I would "take care" of the dogs myself next time I catch them on my property, espcially with the kids around.
It's pretty obvious the lady isnt going to control them...
Shoot them and haul their butts in her front yard and tell her you dealt with the problem once and for all. Be sure the animal control or cop is there too.
I am VERY sorry you were bitten, it is painful. I will have you know though, I hope my dogs would bite an unwelcomed person on my property. You were an unwelcomed person. You have zero grounds for euthanasia on THAT biting episode. As for them going outside of their property limits, you have every right to shoot. And you should. Keeping yourself and your children safe should your be your number one priority and the very reason why you should never set foot on that property again.
