Bitten by a dog

Aggressive dog on OUR property - there is a bullet with their name written on it. Then we call the sheriff (who lives across the street), report it, and let them deal with the idiot who owned the dog.

Here, we have small kids. No one has ever gotten anywhere with complaining that we killed their roaming dog. Our response to the police is that we were concerned about the safety of our kids.

The one who tried to challenge us, the dog was so psycho evil in the incredible heat that he was lathering at the mouth, 12 y/o DD and 16 y/o DS were both terrified of the dog (and they go out and process birds and game for people in the summer, so they've seen a lot) never mind the little kids (including a 10 month old), and it took DH shooting him 5 times to drop him because he couldn't do a head shot because of the rabies concern. Said dog wasn't even current on his shots, so he was tested for rabies. The owners didn't like it. Even got a lawyer to back them up. We got a lawyer also. And the sheriff on our side and the animal control. The judge about laughed them out of court.

I had this kind of problem with a neighbor's dog and another neighbor's child. You should go to the closest ER, and when you tell them it is a dogbite, they will call the police and animal control, and the people who are supposed to handle this kind of thing will do so. They will come to the ER to interview you, then they will go to the dogowner and take the animal. You won't have to deal with it anymore.

Not helpful if the dogs run around the neighborhood. Makes me nuts to hear people excuse bad behavior of their animals on other people. I'd have to go with SSS. My grandfather shot several dogs that were running around the place I lived when I was growing up just for growling at us. The owners didn't care, so he shot all their dogs and left them in their driveway. Never had a problem like that again.

I hope you will sue her, because she's been fined, and continues to ignore the warnings......She deserves to be hit hard in the pocket for this one....Maybe that will get her attention.

I was bitten by a small dog once. My aunt's neighbor invited me one day, and her small dog bit me on the back of the leg and bruised me. (Not as bad as yours, but similar.) Anyhow, I didn't sue her because she's a good person and I know she was sorry.......

But this is different. And your kids could end up bitten....Maimed even......TERRIBLE!

Do what you have to do to force her to be a responsible dog owner, or get rid of those vicious dogs.......

I would put my dog down if it attacked someone like that for just walking up to the door this is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Now if someone breaks into my home then that is another story. I did have a doberman anyone could walk up on the property try and go in the house while I was their with the kids without me knowing she would nip them in the butt. She was doing her job. I am always very careful when it comes to dogs and biting I have heard to many stories of people who had dogs bite people on their own property and the owners where sued and the people who where got bitten won. It is a different story if they bite a person uninvited in the house.

how terrifying for your kids! My pup got attacked while I was wearing my baby, walking around the neighborhood. I don't understand irresponsible dog owners. The neighbor paid our vet bill. I'm not sure if they took their dog to the vet. My dog protected us appropriately.

I think that you could be held liable if your dog did bite some one that was on your property, not a robber but some one just coming up to knock on your door (non threatening). Now, if the property is fenced with 'no trespassing' signs and a 'beware of dog' sign, then that would be unlawful entry.

True, so its ok for a dog to just bite anyone. The post master, power co. person, UPS/FEDEX trying to leave you a package, census, there could be a number of people that come to your door. You don't expect to be attacked, that does need to be noted if you own a dog that bites every person they come into contact with.

So she can't confront the dog owners after their dogs were growling and stalking her and her children while they were taking their trash out on their property?
She has plenty of grounds for euthanasia on that biting episode. That dog is dangerous. What if it was kids playing near the house and the dog being off leash and uncontained went after them? Would that be grounds for euthanasia? It sounds like there is a leash law or some type of containment law for dogs since the owner complains that you used to be able to let your dogs run free. The dog unfortunatly will have to pay the price for a stupid owner.
