Bitten by a dog

Quote:
So she can't confront the dog owners after their dogs were growling and stalking her and her children while they were taking their trash out on their property?
She has plenty of grounds for euthanasia on that biting episode. That dog is dangerous. What if it was kids playing near the house and the dog being off leash and uncontained went after them? Would that be grounds for euthanasia? It sounds like there is a leash law or some type of containment law for dogs since the owner complains that you used to be able to let your dogs run free. The dog unfortunatly will have to pay the price for a stupid owner.

If the dog had bit a police officer or animal control officer the animal would have been shot or taken to the pound. Here unless you have your property fenced with no trespassing and beware of dog signs you will be held liable for a dog bite.

I am sorry. I hope they had rabies shots. Animal control should do something. I would call police everyday on them till they got so tired of me calling they did something

I think that you could be held liable if your dog did bite some one that was on your property, not a robber but some one just coming up to knock on your door (non threatening). Now, if the property is fenced with 'no trespassing' signs and a 'beware of dog' sign, then that would be unlawful entry.

True, so its ok for a dog to just bite anyone. The post master, power co. person, UPS/FEDEX trying to leave you a package, census, there could be a number of people that come to your door. You don't expect to be attacked, that does need to be noted if you own a dog that bites every person they come into contact with.

Nope, not ok to bite the mailman!

I've been bitten lots of times I always say its the human's fault because 'I'm the more evolved one' but this time it isn't. I hope you heal up soon, that looks painful. And i am sorry for all the trouble you have had over this mutt.

Oh also, if it was MY dog being aggressive towards people? Nope, you throw the fit once, you are marched to the vet. If there is no physical problem, you will not be coming home.

Our goofy, happy, lovable mutt, Sammy, snarled at the kids once. I got gauze around his muzzle to muzzle him, wouldn't let the kids near him, marched him to the car, drove him to the vet. Vet started to check him out, he snarled when he touched his paw. X-ray later, he had a metal wire bit (from where, we don't know) imbedded in his pad that was abscessing. It was obviously horribly painful to him, so he got patched up and came home. Never snarled at the kids or us again, even as an old old dog with bad hips and a toddler grabbing his fur.

However, no matter how wonderful Sammy was otherwise, if there wasn't anything wrong with him and he'd acted out at home towards family (or wandered away and acted out), I was ready that day to have the vet euthanize him then and there.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Your neighbor is an idiot. Her home owners insurance should cover 'damages' and you should be able to file a claim to tap into that. Not only for compensation for your expenses and pain, but her insurance company may be able to convince her to keep her animals under control. If you ask for the dog to be put down, that doesn't help with her stupidity. There's nothing to stop her from going out and getting another untrained dog that could become dangerous. But if her insurance company raises her rates through the roof or refuses to insure her because of the dog, that might get her attention.

I'm not making fun of your wound, but it kinda looks like a frog in the second pic; see the eyes and the tummy? I see a really great frog...

Because the dog is a pure bred, I contacted the rescue for that breed organization. I will be talking to them again tomorrow, but it seems as if given the long paper chair on the neglect issue there may be grounds to take the dog for rescue.

It would be the best case scenario. It would be best if the owner agrees and signs the dog over. If she refuses the police may agree to a "rescue" where the dog just vanishes. It would make me feel better to know the dog would get another chance.

Please reconsider having a Rescue get this dog. Because his aggression is a learned behavior he will continue to be aggressive and other people may be put in harm's way. He will no longer be your problem but could very well become someone else's. If he has bitten once, he will more than likely bite again.
I am truly sorry that this happened to you, and as difficult as it is to request that this dog be euthanized, please don't allow it to happen to someone else. From your post this dog has shown his true colors and another chance for this dog could result in another chance for him to inflict serious injury.
As a past-director of a Rescue, I would be surprised if a Rescue would even take this dog. In any case, you're in a difficult position and I know how hard it is for you to decide what to do, whatever your final decision may be.

Where is Cesar when you need him!!!!!!

Honestly; NOBODY can make a diagnosis on the issues with a dog over a computer. The dog needs to be properly evaluated by experts.

Sheesh.....

IHWIMY; I hope you get better. Take the Vit. C so that bruise clears up!!!!
