Bitten by a dog

WOW! My youngest DD's arm looked like that when my BIL's dog bit her through her down coat! Only thing missing was the tooth punctures!

I think the NEXT time you go out, have a gun with you and take care of business. Those dogs could kill somebody, and kids are VERY easy targets.

Screw the law, it seems they just will not do anything. These dogs are completely out of control.

That's awful. I'm worried about a dog in my neighborhood. We're fairly new to the neighborhood, but we have some neighbors with a three legged smaller dog that they can't seem to keep penned up. My neighbors told us it killed three of their chickens last year and everytime it breaks lose she has to run out and get them into the coop.

People need to be able to control their animals, it seems like you should have a right to protect your property and animals from other people's animals right?

When I delivered the pix to the cop this morning he looked at me and said, "I'd have shot it." I said "I don't walk around my property armed."
He said, "Maybe you should start."

They told me I am perfectly within my rights to shoot it if it is on my property.

He said, "Do you want to request that it be put down?"
I said, "May I request that the owner be put down?" He laughed.

I have WHAT in my yard? :

I am so sorry this happened to you I would feel so bad if my dogs ever bit anyone like that. I would have them euthanized in a heart beat. I hope your daughters are okay I would watch for nightmare ect. Kids seem to show fear of one thing by acting another way like getting in trouble or stomachs I Know my daughter did when something bad happened. good luck with the dogs. I hope some body does something with them since the owner seems unable to control them.

Usually I think dogs should get a second chance after a bite, IF they were defending THEIR property and IF it was an adult that got bit. But this isen't the first time they've been on YOUR property and your kids (as Im sure you know) are smaller than you. You had a good reason for going over to the neighbors house.. You should take her to court for medical bills, pain and suffering, psychological distress for your kids, ect ect. If she really desent care a bit, then I can bet if the dog does end up getting put down she will just get another to take its place and let it run around too.. at least if you hit her where it hurts (her pocketbook, and a good lawyer could help in that regard) the lesson might finally sink in and have her containing her animals.

In my neck of the woods, you are still responsible if your dog bites someone on your property or in your house. I just don't understand dog owners sometimes. You have to take responsibility for the pets you own and if you don't its just wrong. We rescued a dog that was tossed into a dumpster at 3 days old and nursed it and raised it. When the dog turned 2 it started to get very aggressive with strangers. We spent thousands of dollars on training etc to try to do something. One day the dog growled at my daughter, that was the last straw and the dog was put down the next day. As sad as it was for us, the dog was a liability and every time the children had friends over I was a crazed woman trying to lock up the dog so no one was hurt. I was relieved in the end.

These dogs will only continue to get worse because 1) they are not getting any training from the owner so they are making up their own rules, 2) biting is now a behavior that works for them, it gets them what they want, 3) everytime they act with aggression they are rewarded by the 'threat' leaving. In their mind they are successful and this will only purpetuate the behavior. Not saying you shouldn't back down -- that would be foolish -- just giving you some insight into how the dogs are reading the situation.

So sad that this has allowed to keep happening to you over and over. If you can get a gun and next time the dogs are on your property shoot them both. You have proof of bites, proof of previous citations.

I kicked the heck out of the husky that was biting my dog in my yard. The owners paid the vet bill($400).

I hope they are made to pay your ER bill.

I always tell my friends that we were lucky our bigger dog was out and not our mini pin. The Husky would have killed the pin. I am sorry you got bit,but so glad it was not one of your kids. Shoot to kill from this day forward. I would not even wait for a sign of aggresion.

Ouch!

I have called animal control several times about my neighbors three dogs. They finally told me to shoot the dogs the next time they are on my property. Due to budget cuts, they (animal control) will no longer be answering calls except in an emergency. The animal control officer told the dog owner the same thing, and we haven't seen the dogs since.

Good luck to you.
