Black Acres: The chickens that saved me

Pics
I have my 3 Silkie hens with the regular chooks, and the Silkies rule the roost!

My only issue is my Roo who is really too big for the hens. In the spring I need to seperate him from them, right now I have hen saddles on them to protect them.
Mine too! They are the bossiest and sassiest chickens in my mixed flock haha! My big GLW hen scares all the other chickens but Betty White pecks at her when she’s in her roost spot and Charlie moves 😆 My giant rooster (you can see how huge he was compared to Fuzzy) was also always really gentle with all my bantams…definitely think it depends on the personalities of the bigger chickens! :)

Let’s find this paradise we speak of! It’s too cold here!
Im from Denver and love the cold . One hot summer day I didn't want my wrap on and someone asked me if I was cold I said " not since I moved to Nebraska! " My theory is you can always layer on but once it's hot 🔥🥵!But it's a little too cold now for sure.
I lived in nw KS for about 18 years on a creek bottom it was a great life just a b#_&t h_#e for a husband ! Have a great hubby now though.

Exactly!! People frown when you take off all the layers in summer…and even then it’s not enough! 😆

Did we just become best friends? Finally, I’ve found my people!!!

Mine we raised together from hatch I separated them 2 months ago because I was worried about the extreme size difference. Now the Silkies are mostly grown so I wouldn’t worry so much. It would be easier for me to have them all in one coop/run. I would also feel better during these cold snaps that the Silkies would have the bigs to help keep them warm. I’ll likely reintegrate, just have to find the right time. Now is not that time since none of them will even come out of the coops because it’s so cold. LOL
I'm glad to know they can live together and tolerate the cold here. I love the Silkies breed.

Yes!! I am harassed by my husband because I “keep the house at penguin” in winter here. 😆 I told him if he is going to make me live in this horrible hot Valley he just had to live with it!
The thermostat is a constant debate in my house. I keep it 60-62 in the Winter. Husband turns it up constantly but I have a nifty little app on my phone that alerts me so I just turn it right back down and tell him to get a blanket. :lau

Well, I just wore next to nothing and the heat did not bother me one bit. When it did get too warm we would head to the beach and jump in the ocean plus lots of ocean sports. But now that I am not so bikini worthy I'm not thrilled with the summers.
I think idea winters should be based on favorite scarves though... not layers.
