I am getting 7 Black Australorp hens and 1 rooster in a few weeks. I have never had Australorps before and I am wondering if they are a flighty chicken. If so I'm looking for advice on how tall my run walls should be or if I need to put a top on it. Thanks for any information and advice.

Thanks

I have to hens and they aren't flighty for me. But I would ask for a second opinion

I have Australorps, they tend to find more lower holes for escape.
I have an 8 foot fence around my coop and it keeps them in. Once they get a bit older and a bit bigger they will stick to lower perches.

I would say a minimum of 6' should do. Those young Aus's are a bit flighty.

Are they adults? Australorps are big, heavy birds. By the second year mine couldn't get over a four foot fence without assistance :D

Congratulations on what sounds like an excellent acquisition!
