Here is my little Lady Ashley "black austrolop" she is at about 6 weeks. Is this a black austrolop???? or could it be another breed? Also Is she a she or should I re name him Drover??? She is named after the movie Australia. Oh and her feathers have a purplish sheen to them.

I think it looks like a BA. They have a lot of light down until they feather out. That amount of comb doesn't seem unreasonable to me. It's not red. They are supposed to have a green/purple sheen to their feathers. Did you check the bottoms of her feet? yellow= jersey giant pink= australorp

I don't think you should be worried. I would be if the comb were at least twice the size and red.

Quote:Actually they do come in other colors but they are rare. I watched an episode of House and was irritated to see him with a white chicken he called an Australorp. Then I looked it up and found out they do come in colors other than black. As chicks they are black and grey and all the light down feathers into black.
