Why is this little guys feathers sticking out sideways from his body? Does he have some frizzle in him?? They just keep curling!!

He is a frizzle bantam cochin. Frizzle isn't a breed, it's a feather type. This little guy is frizzled :)

Chickens get curly feathers the same way that humans get curly hair, it's all in the genes. :)

Congrats, he'll be adorable when he's fully feathered.

To get a frizzle, you must have at least one frizzled parent. One frizzled parent gives you a 50/50 chance of a frizzled offspring. Two frizzled parents can result in what people call a frazzle. You do not want this. The chicks are born with so much frizzle that the feathers are too brittle to last and break off leaving a bald, very ugly, chicken.

Those pics definitely say frizzle to me...and, a roo

Heres another picture too. The parents are both regular black cochin bantams. However, could there be a frizzle grandparent? The feathers are definitely curling outward on the upper wing.

Are there variants to frizzling? The cuticle or base of the feather seems straight, but at the end, or tip it curs outward. Is that how frizzling works? Or does the feather curl the whole length of the feather?
